What is laminate flooring?

Laminate flooring is an attractive, laminated material consisting of several layers that are bound together in a laminated structure. The top layer is called the wear layer, and it protects against scratches, stains, and more.

The bottom layer is called the backing material, which supports both stability and comfort underfoot. It’s also non-porous, so water won’t soak through into your subfloor below!

Laminate waterproof flooring is a layered floor built around a watertight, glued High Density Fibre (HDF) board. All Quick-Step laminate floors consist of four different layers:

  • FA transparent, wear-resistant overlay providing protection against stains, impact, scratches, burns and household chemicals.
  • A design layer: a high-resolution photo of real wood that is reproduced with sophisticated printing techniques and finished with melamine resin.
  • An extremely durable and stable moisture-resistant, glued HDF core board.
  • A balancing layer, which guarantees a perfectly balanced board that will not cup or bow when properly installed and maintained.

Best Way to Care for Laminate Flooring
Cleaning

Wipe up spills as soon as they happen. If a spill occurs on the floor, carefully use a dry, absorbent cloth to wipe up any liquid and then allow it to dry. Do not use water or any other cleaning products. You may also want to try an area rug under your furniture, which can help with spills.

Maintaining

Laminate floors should be dusted regularly and vacuumed at least once a week to keep them looking their best. You can also use a damp mop to dust the floor, but make sure your mop is only damp – too much water can cause warping in your laminate floors.

Lastly, you’ll want to periodically inspect for loose or lifted edges, which could indicate moisture damage, so if you do find any loose edges, replace the boards before they do any more damage!
